Genshin Impact phone released by OnePlus

OnePlus has unveiled another Genshin Impact character for collaborating with the highly popular gaming series.
Showcased at the Mobile World Congress, the limited edition 12R version of the device sported the unmistakable violet of the iconic character Keqing.
“Every adventure begins with the first step. Every legend needs a hero. Discover the one within you. Travel on a journey beyond imagination and exceed the Speed of Lightning,” says the release site.
OnePlus X Genshin
The cell company has also released a special video update via YouTube listing the features of the new device:

This is the fourth entry into the Hoyoverse (miYoHo) collaboration with OnePlus across a three-year spell.
The series’ voice actor for Keqing has provided a tailored experience for alarms, messages, and the phone’s ringtone that will “bring the world of Tevyat to your ears.”
The phone’s site description states, “From the power-on animation to the dynamic wallpaper, every aspect of the mobile experience has been transformed for Genshin Impact fans. Whether you’re unlocking the phone or charging the phone, the deep integration will awaken unforgettable memories for every adventurer.”
The company has introduced the OnePlus Trinity Engine that boasts “unparalleled Genshin Impact gaming performance. Extreme optimizations ensure consistently high frame rates, extreme graphics quality, and faster load times. Experience smooth gaming beyond belief with a console-like experience in the palm of your hand.”
This engine is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor paired with 16GB of RAM and has a charging speed of 31 minutes for the device manufacturer’s largest battery to date. Sadly, there is no remote charging for the Gacha-inspired phone, but it compensates by being incredibly fast to top up for long gaming sessions.
With mobile gaming such a huge part of the revenue stream for miYoHo this new release will continue the trend of the company investing in portable as well as PC gaming.
“The one thing nobody likes to see is the loading screen,” said OnePlus president and COO Kinder Liu. “We know every second counts for a Traveler. From launching the app, logging in to being able to move your character takes a mere 15 seconds, phenomenal!”
We reported last month that miYoHo had raked in a stunning $5 billion in revenue since the mobile launch of Genshin three years ago, and the game remains the biggest draw for the Gacha offerings that the studio has released.
It remains to be seen how many other Genshin Impact staples will get their identifying color treatment, but for Kequin fans they can pick up this particular phone from March 21.

How to negotiate for a job with Meta’s ruthless recruiters

If you have ambitions to work for Facebook or Instagram, maybe even WhatsApp, you will know all about the parent company Meta.
Securing an interview with the social media giant is no mean feat, but what if you could get a foot inside the door before your actual interview to increase your chances of landing a prestigious role at the forefront of social media development?
That is what is on offer from interviewing.io – a platform dedicated to a mock interview process with access to a senior engineer at a FAANG (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Alphabet, formerly Google) company. The San Francisco-based project wants to enhance the experience and recently laid out some of its tips for securing an engineering job at Meta.
How do I get an engineering job at Meta?
With the extent of cuts across the industry at present, it is an employer’s market so to speak and within software engineering, Meta can flex its dominance in hiring, and specifically in the terms it is offering to prospective new hires.
In its findings, interviewing.io stated Meta has a monopoly on FAANG hiring as things stand, with figures showing its rate of new staff is up tenfold on January 2023.
The trade-off on their openings is the rough deal Meta is supposedly dishing out, in how they are treating candidates.
Meta is said to have adopted a centralized hiring approach, pooling together those who are going through the process and then taking a team matching path after initial screening is completed, but way before any job offer is on the table.
The harsh tactics come to the fore with a ‘down-level’ process where a thick skin and some negotiating power will be required. This will be needed when Meta lowballs you, with a contract offer including a salary $50k or more below the going rate, with the added pressure of a short timeframe to respond.
Unless you have other offers from comparable companies, your pleas for increased terms are likely to fall on deaf ears. That is how brutal the whole process has been portrayed but you can fight your corner to succeed.
How to negotiate with Meta?
Have other offers
In what is likely to be an extensive process, you will need to have other options available to an extent. Don’t put your eggs in the one basket, as contacts and communications with other FAANG companies on their openings will work massively in your favour.
Don’t share too much
When it comes to the details of the interview with Meta, do not share anything more than is necessary.
At the same time, your hiring manager presents an opening to strike up a rapport and lay the groundwork for a solid working relationship. It can sound like a contradiction but it is more of a delicate balancing act in your approach and one that can pay off when interviewing for Meta.
Treat ’em mean, keep ’em keen
Treat the recruiter mean, keep the hiring manager keen! You could even ask for the manager’s email address for any follow-up questions. This can work in your favor for time if the recruiter is pushing you hard for a response.
After that, it comes down to the art of negotiating, where you will need a solid case, ideally a couple of other offers and the nous to present a compelling case as to why you merit the terms you are pushing for.

How to make Apollo 13, Saturn V, and NASA in Infinite Craft

We are going to the moon in Infinite Craft this time. And we ain’t talking crypto. Here we are going to make some of the famous Apollo missions – including the one that nearly didn’t make it back, as well as the NASA space agency itself.
Weirdly, a lot of the steps for Apollo 13 are similar to when we made the Internet, so if you have already followed that guide, then you will be able to do this even quicker than the recipe below
How to make Apollo 13
Getting these spacecraft is not a particularly quick process, but if you have been playing IC for a while, you will probably have several of these bits in your inventory already, so check to see what steps you can skip.

Amazon Fire TV software update is disrupting apps

Amazon’s most recent Fire TV software update has reportedly blocked a Fire TV capability that has been present since the original model’s release in 2014. As a result, several popular apps have experienced issues, with users noting disruptions with certain third-party applications.
AFTVNews explains that the latest update of the Fire OS software restricts access to a feature known as the Android Debug Bridge (ADB). This function is typically used by developers to reach system controls and settings that are usually inaccessible. However, it reported that this change has made several popular Fire TV apps, which have been available in Amazon‘s own Appstore for years, essentially unusable.
This implies that without this feature, Fire TV apps are now unable to perform certain complex tasks, like freeing internal storage space by clearing the cache of all installed applications.
The update is said to appear in version 7.6.6.9 for the Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Cube, and version 8.1.0.3 for the Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max. The change may also impact older devices. It doesn’t affect the usage of phones and computers, which can still be used to establish ADB connections.
An Amazon spokesperson responded to a ReadWrite query, saying “We are aware of reports that some apps have been impacted by a recent security update.” The company recommended that if developers have questions, they can contact their Amazon Fire TV Appstore representative, or visit https://developer.amazon.com/support/contact-us.
Security issues with ADB commands

Amazon’s latest Fire TV software update blocks the ability for apps to establish local ADB connections.
Some developers are freaking out. I say they are dead wrong. Here’s why.
There is *zero* reason a local application should be requesting and executing ADB commands. It’s… pic.twitter.com/gEG0JsgBmG
— LaurieWired (@lauriewired) February 25, 2024

Some users have agreed with Amazon’s assessment that requesting ADB commands could pose a security risk. User @Lauriewired, who identifies as a reverse engineering expert, wrote on X, “There is *zero* reason a local application should be requesting and executing ADB commands.  It’s a huge security risk, ripe for creating botnets and malware abuse.
“Any legitimate Android developer should be using an external ADB connection anyway, this in no way “harms” the standard development process,” they added.
According to Ars Technica, a developer was informed that their app had malfunctioned because it “overrides the native user experience,” shedding some light on Amazon’s rationale. This could mean that Amazon intends to abandon Android on its Fire TV devices, therefore gaining even greater control over the software interface.

Valorant leaks suggest new Scottish Agent inbound

Riot Games’ Valorant is set to announce a new Agent and more leaks have given us a better idea of who they might be. The current act for the first-person shooter is about to come to a close on March 4, with Episode 8 Act 2 to launch on March 8, 2024, and many fans are anticipating a new character codenamed “Smokedancer”.
Valorant goes to Scotland?
The Valorant gaming community has been awash with rumours and they have been quick to sus out as much as possible from the small breadcrumbs left by the developers at Riot.
Audio voicemail voice lines that have been downloaded from the game from community contributor Shiik point to the new Valorant character hailing from Scotland:

Scottland next?PBE voicemails. pic.twitter.com/IBakwBv6lg
— Shiick (@Shiick) February 10, 2024

The audio notes describe fan favourite character Brimstone being in Scotland’s capital of Edinburgh according to the game’s Moroccan information broker Cypher. He says in the lines “They’ve (Omen) found someone you’d like to meet. I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland.”
Fade, the bounty hunter talks about having nightmarish visions of a person saying “I see someone I have never seen before, bright lights starting around a dim room, silenced gunfire…and hundreds of butterflies.”
This news would surely point to the card that was teased from Episode 8 Act 1 of the game. Well-known community leaker Valorleaks would post to X about this card and a well-received rumour post from Incorrect Valorant Quotes would also highlight the details discovered so far:

New Agent Teaser | #VALORANT
Agent seems to be a Controller pic.twitter.com/qOql50O4IN
— Mike | Valorant Leaks & News (@ValorLeaks) December 26, 2023

#VALORANTLore
so.. we are supposed to get the new agent next week, right?.. and all we know is that
> They are from Scotland> silenced gunfire> 100s of Butterflies> Supposedly a controller (?)> BP teaser card
wow… that’s it?..
pic creds: @ArchivesKingdom pic.twitter.com/daKE7hNGad
— Incorrect Valorant Quotes (@IncorrectValo) February 27, 2024

If the character is a possible Controller then that would add to the existing list of Astra, Brimstone, Harbour, Omen and Viper, who are all active Agents in the game with the same role. Harbor was the last of this list to come to the title in in October 2022, so with a burgeoning list of other playable types it seems high time for Smokedancer to appear.
The last Agent to be dropped by Riot Games was the Chinese fixer-for-hire Iso who was a Duelist archetype of the game’s main playable roles, so it would be only right for Riot to release a new Agent to bring the total character count to 25.
So next week will be a big one for fans of the shooter and we’ll know more about this potential character that could point to the mythical Fae of Scottish folklore when Act 2 announcements drop.
