Will there be an XDefiant battle royale?

XDefiant has been brandished the new ‘CoD killer’ with its fine-tuned mechanics that fans for the fast-paced FPS genre have been wanting for some time now.
However, with Call of Duty being a multifaceted affair these days with the introduction of Warzone, many are now wondering if there will be an XDefiant battle royale in the future.
Let’s get into all we know on an XDefiant BR mode.
XDefiant battle royale: Everything we know
At this current time, no, XDefiant does and will not have a battle royale mode. Instead, it will simply be the arena shooter many have been clambering for, with those added unique abilities and factions Ubisoft is known for.
Mark Rubin, the Executive Developer on XDefiant even came out in February 2023 to state that they “are solely focused on making a great and fun arena shooter. No BR.” and will not “moving on to a new game after this”. Since the full title has launched and there has been no correction to this message, it’s safe to say that a battle royale will not be coming.

This may come as a surprise to most since Call of Duty made the jump to the battle royale genre quite smoothly, and has brought more and more people into the franchise because of this. But, Ubisoft compared to Activision and its studios is a very different beast, with its expertise laying in those single-player titles rather than large-scale multiplayer affairs.
However, with this being said, they did have a crack at a battle royale game called Hyper Scape but if you’ve not heard of this, you’re likely not alone. It was innovative and very content creator-friendly but sadly it didn’t have the legs, and quite frankly, The Finals has pretty much taken its place in the market.
With a battle pass to level up and seasons to make your way through, XDefiant does borrow some battle royale features but as of right now, this is as close as you’re going to get to the fan-favorite looting and shooting genre.

Humane AI is reportedly looking for a buyer, weeks after car crash Pin launch

Artificial intelligence startup Humane Inc is reportedly seeking a buyer for its business, just weeks after its first wearable AI device’s disastrous reception upon launch.
Bloomberg reports say the company is looking for a price of between $750 million and $1 billion, but the process is still in its infancy.
Humane is working with a financial advisor to assist with the possible purchase of their company which was only founded in 2018.
The technology company focuses on consumer electronics that use artificial intelligence and the founders both worked at Apple before launching their own business. In November 2023, Humane Inc had raised a whopping $230 million with investors including Open AI CEO Sam Altman, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, Microsoft, LG, Qualcomm, Volvo, and Tiger Global.
The only device from the Humane team was announced during a TED Talk in May of the same year, titled the AI Pin which essentially acts as a phone without a screen. Whether you’re looking to make a phone call, send a text message, or write something down, you simply ask the Pin and it uses a cellular connection to execute your commands.
The small device was even featured by Time in its Best 200 Inventions of 2023 list which was published before the product was released and ahead of the magazine being provided a review unit for testing.
While the product gained traction and interest ahead of launch, the following months haven’t been so pleasant for the team behind the AI Pin.
Humane AI Pin reviews are underwhelming and scathing

The $699 no-screen wearable started to be shipped out to customers in April 2024 and it doesn’t appear to be living up to the hype.
The gadget was supposed to kick off a post-smartphone era where humans can be more present in the active real world with everything carried out by the Pin. But the reality is that the ambition isn’t being delivered.
In one of the first reviews, by The Verge, they address the question of whether you should buy the AI Pin. The response: “Nope. Nuh-uh. No way. The AI Pin is an interesting idea that is so thoroughly unfinished and so totally broken in so many unacceptable ways that I can’t think of anyone to whom I’d recommend spending the $699 for the device and the $24 monthly subscription.”
The Washington Post branded the projector “basically unreadable” when in the sun and Wired described it as a mere “party trick.”
Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee called it the “worst product I’ve ever reviewed.”

YouTuber Coffeezilla destroys Rabbit R1 AI company in latest investigation

Coffeezilla, the popular YouTuber and investigator who regularly deep dives into influencer scams, has called out the startup behind the Rabbit R1 as he says it was “built on a scam.”
Stephen Findeisen, who goes by the username Coffeezilla, has over 3.47 million subscribers, and almost 1.5 million tuned in to watch his latest YouTube drop which was published on Tuesday (May 21).
Coffeezilla claims the company behind the AI gadget Rabbit R1, called Rabbit Incorporation, was previously named Cyber Manufacturing Co and says this name change happened just two months before the launch of the handheld assistant.
He says Cyber Manufacture Co raised $6 million in November 2021 for a “Next Generation NFT Project GAMA.”
The CEO of Rabbit Incorporation Jesse Lyu described GAMA as being “a fun little project.”
Coffeezilla, however, has accused the founder and CEO of being a lot more serious about the project than he initially suggested.

Old recordings of Rabbit R1 founder Jesse Lyu surface
The YouTuber found old Clubhouse clips of Jesse Lyu talking about GAMA where he can be heard saying: “I don’t want to make GAMA, and none of us want to make GAMA as a hype and dump program. This is a legit team with millions of dollars of funding behind it. Basically, we’re dumping millions of monies into it just to make sure that it will be a next-level experience.”
The recording continues with the founder talking about the GAMA coin and how it could “become the first not only carbon neutral but actually carbon negative crypto 2.0 or Bitcoin 2.0.”
At this point, Coffeezilla asks his audience: “But where are those millions? When the company changed to Rabbit, where did it go? Did it go to develop Rabbit, a completely different project?”
He alleges that investors of the GAMA project haven’t yet been refunded and he estimates the refunds to be around $1 million.
A pop-up on the screen at the 7-minute mark states that Rabbit Inc claims the $6 million in venture funding raised for the GAMA project was used for that project only.
Rabbit’s response to Coffeezilla after R1 video
When Coffeezilla reached out after asking about the GAMA project and refund possibilities, the team from Rabbit Incorporation replied.
“There is no way to actually ‘refund’ an NFT unless the owner themselves agrees to ‘burn’ the NFTs on the blockchain. Again, we don’t agree with calling the GAMA project “abandoned” when it was open-sourced and given back to the community, in alignment with community feedback.
“This claim from Jesse you mentioned was taken out of context. The situation back then was there was a group of people trying to do malicious wash trading and reselling of their NFTs. To prevent that trend from escalating, Jesse decided to buy back the NFTs from these sellers to maintain the balance and order of the community and market.”

Best XDefiant factions ranked from best to worst

XDefiant is the new hot off-the-press FPS that’s looking to take on the behemoth that is Call of Duty with similar movement, mechanics, and overall gameplay. However, one change to the formula is the introduction of factions, allowing you to utilize different abilities to get a one-up on your opponents.
Knowing what the best faction in XDefiant is will enable you to get that edge required in the fast-paced combat. Here, we’ll take you through a ranked list of the best XDefiant factions so you can pick the one for you based on their effectiveness and not just their battle pass skins.
Best XDefiant factions in Pre-season, ranked
After putting in some hours into the full release of the game and using expert insights from the top content creators, we’ve compiled a list of the best XDefiant factions and why.
This list is based on the current Preseason meta and will likely change when Season 1 comes around but until then, this is the most accurate tier list.
1. Libertads

The Libertads are our choice as the best faction in XDefiant at this current time. This is due to them being fantastic for beginners and experts alike, with their support nature that can bolster you in combat as well as your teammates.
If you do opt for Libertad, you’ll not only recover health faster than any other faction but also allow those around you to benefit too. This is shared throughout all of the abilities, including the passive.
The Médico Supremo Ultra furthers this for yourself, providing both increased health and healing over time. In fact, your health doubles, which is amazing for a game of this ilk since time to kill is almost instantaneous.
The obvious downside of the Libertads is that there are no offensive abilities to take control of situations, but thanks to the support nature of the healing you have, you’ll still be able to get by against the more attacking factions.
2. Phantoms

Just missing out on the top stop is the Phantoms, a versatile faction that is great for a variety of game modes.
Right off the bat, the passive ability you’ll get as a Phantoms faction member is increased health. This is obviously a top passive that will allow for a little more breathing room in the fast time-to-kill of the game.
The Mag Barrier ability can be a godsend in certain game modes, creating a walled shield that prevents damage, so you can get a reload in or look to make a forward move to get a good angle.
The Blitz Shield is essentially a riot shield which can be good in niche situations but is very easily flanked, so it’s not a top-tier ability that you’ll likely use often.
The Aegis Ultra on the other hand can be incredibly clutch. Since you’ve essentially got a walking bubble shield, your whole team can use this to make advancements and pick off opponents. The scattergun that you receive when in this is good but you have to be very close to make it effective.
3. Echelon

The Echelon faction is one that can be an acquired taste but in the right hands can be extremely deadly.
The main meal of this faction is the fact that you’re stealthy. Using the classic Splinter Cell gear will allow you to pop a Sonar Goggles ultimate ability that will not only allow you to see enemies through walls but also utilize a one-shot pistol. These, combined, will net you a few kills, but only if you’re a crack shot.
The Digital Ghillie Suit ability adds another layer of stealth, giving you cloaked invisibility akin to that of the Halo games. While this is useful, it does subside once you shoot your weapon, so it is best used to get to certain locations on the map unnoticed.
For the passive, you cannot be seen on the minimap, which is very much like the Ghost perk from Call of Duty. The obvious advantage to this is that you can shoot at will without having to worry about revealing yourself, and is perfect for those kill-based game modes.
Overall, Echelon is great but only if you master the abilities which makes it a faction you may want to play after getting some hours in.
4. Cleaners

The Cleaners are definitely the most offensive faction to pick from and will be the choice for those who simply want to deal as much damage as possible.
The passive you’ll receive is incendiary rounds which do exactly what you’d think – inflict extra burn damage. It does come at the cost of weapon range but the damage outweighs this.
The Incendiary Drone and Firebomb are great for getting damage in from a little further away since they add fire in more AoE ways.
Finally, The Purifier Ultra allows you to wield a very powerful flamethrower, incredibly useful for a plethora of game modes. Plus, it’s pretty menacing to come across.
Unfortunately, though, these offensive pros come with a couple of cons. First, you’re a larger character meaning you’re easier to spot and kill. Second, those abilities do take longer to become available which is pretty annoying since the gameplay is fast.
5. Deadsec

Last but not least, we’ve got DeadSec. While this faction’s abilities sound great on the face of it, in-game, they are somewhat underpowered which sadly puts it right at the bottom of the picks.
Looking at those abilities, you can utilize the Spiderbot to stun an enemy but this can easily be countered by simply shooting it before it gets to you. Additionally, the Ultra stops enemies using their abilities and HUD but is only effective in an assigned area and ultimately, doesn’t prevent them from simply killing you the old-fashioned way.
The Hijack ability is Deadsec’s only saving grace really as it allows you to steal abilities from others. This is incredibly useful but again, is held back by one key aspect – the small radius.
