Bitcoin wallets holding over $1,000 surge 20% in 2024

According to a report released by Fidelity Digital Assets on Monday, the number of Bitcoin wallets holding $1,000 or more has experienced a significant 20% increase since the beginning of 2024.
This ongoing accumulation among smaller addresses reached a record high of 10.6 million on March 13, nearly doubling from 5.3 million in 2023, representing a 101% rise.
Despite the upward trend in Bitcoin prices, this sustained increase in smaller addresses acquiring and holding the cryptocurrency may indicate a growing distribution and adoption among the “average” person. However, Fidelity noted that price appreciation during the period and address consolidation might affect the accuracy of these figures.
As of April 25, Bitcoin has seen an impressive 89% surge in the past six months, with its last trading price around $64,150.
Self-custody gains popularity
The Fidelity report also highlighted a decrease in the amount of Bitcoin held on exchanges since its peak in 2020. Various exchange failures in 2022 and other problematic practices have driven the popularity of self-custody among Bitcoin holders throughout 2023. This trend continued in Q1 2024, with exchange balances further declining to nearly 2.3 million BTC, marking a 30% decrease from all-time highs and a 4.2% decline over Q1 2024:
Fueled by multiple major exchange collapses in 2022 and other troubled exchange practices, self-custody has become a major part of the bitcoin journey throughout 2023. Q1 2024 was no different as balances on exchanges continued to dwindle.
Fidelity emphasized the importance of monitoring the drop in available Bitcoin on exchanges in 2024, as it underscores the significance of alternative custody methods like self-custody. However, the decrease in exchange balances does not necessarily indicate a corresponding increase in self-custody.
Unusual holder outflows
The report also addressed changes in the net position of holders, who typically hold Bitcoin for the long term. From Q3 to Q4 2023, the average net position dropped from 40,442 BTC to 31,376, with a notable decline at the end of 2023. Despite a slight recovery in late February, this group continued to experience significant outflows, possibly influenced by Bitcoin’s new all-time high.
This occurrence before the halving is unusual compared to past cycles, suggesting that these investors may perceive Bitcoin as being heavily overvalued before the halving. Current outflows amount to about 124,001 BTC, challenging the traditional Bitcoin halving pattern.
The situation following this latest halving event is significantly different from the past, when the price saw a significant increase. Bitcoin has seen its price remain stable, and even its fees fall following the event.

Drake faces legal action over AI diss track with Tupac

Superstar rapper Drake set the internet (or specifically, X) ablaze when he released a diss track featuring AI versions of Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg, but now the Canadian MC faces a legal challenge from Tupac’s estate.
“Taylor Made,” is a diss track aimed at fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar in an ongoing beef between the two music icons that has seen even Kanye West get drawn in.  The track features AI-generated vocals from the late hip-hop sensation Tupac Shakur and fellow West Coast legend Snoop Dogg.
The song, which dropped on April 19, 2024, was received playfully by Snoop Dogg who appeared unfazed in a video message, however, it has drawn the ire of Tupac’s team.
What is Tupac’s estate saying about Drake’s track?
According to Billboard, Tupac’s legal team, led by attorney Howard King, is threatening to take Drake to court over the unauthorized use of the late rapper’s voice. King called the move “a blatant abuse of the legacy of one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time” and stated that the estate never granted permission for the use of Tupac’s vocals.
In a statement addressing the controversy, King expressed the estate’s disappointment and dismay at Drake’s actions. “The Estate is deeply dismayed and disappointed by your unauthorized use of Tupac’s voice and personality,” he said. “The Estate would never have given its approval for this use.”
“Taylor Made” not only takes shots at Lamar but also references pop superstar Taylor Swift, suggesting that her upcoming album release may overshadow the rappers’ ongoing feud.
While Snoop Dogg, whose AI-generated voice also appears on the track, seemed to react with amusement in a cryptic Instagram post featuring various emojis, Tupac’s estate is taking a more serious stance. They have demanded that Drake remove “Taylor Made” from the internet within 24 hours, with the looming threat of legal action if he fails to comply.
The threat must have been taken seriously by Drake as the “Taylor Made” diss was deleted from his X account on Thursday (Apr. 25).

The use of AI-generated vocals in music has become increasingly common on social media platforms, sparking discussions about artists’ rights and the potential misuse of their likenesses and advanced AI music generators like Suno have also caused concern in the industry.

Fortnite Fall Guys leak teases what will be in Epic’s next big collaboration

Epic Games is lining up a collaboration with, er Epic Games as it seemingly prepares to bring two of its hit games together in the world of the all-conquering Battle Royale.
Having already introduced Lego Fortnite and Fortnite Festival alongside its main course, news is rife that the once massive, but has definitely waned a lot, Fall Guys is to come to the Island in an epic (excuse the pun) mashup that could bring a dollop of mayhem and fun with it.
Fortnite leakers are understandably all over this and mainline source of information iFireMonkey has posted on X via some of his contacts some of the things we can expect to see. It is only a leak, so you know, pinch of salt, but it is rare that iFireMonkey puts his name to anything without being pretty sure. The best Fortnite leakers have reputations to maintain of course.
The post on X reads:
“Fall Guys x Fortnite Info VIA Wensoing + Loolo_WRLD

There will be a minigame in Battle Royale
It will be a Fall Guys Obstacle Course
The Course has checkpoints
To teleport to the minigame you will have to go to specific locations on the map

There are files relating to Pegwins chasing you around, which is speculated to be the “supply drop” for the collab.
| Extra Info VIA me >:) |
There will be quests with rewards
Event is codenamed “Beanstalk”

So from that it would seem that Fall Guys is not going to be its own mode as per Lego Fortnite, but rather tucked away in a corner somewhere where you can go and take in a bit of Fall Guys madness as a break from all the building and sniping which is interesting.
This may be a way for Epic to weigh up how popular Fall Guys can still be a few years after its popular launch.
The multiplayer minigame-fest launched in August 2020 and was made popular by the huge number of streamers who picked up on the obstacle-course-based Battle Royale.
Meanwhile, Fortnite’s add-ons continue to flood in with the expected arrival of Star Wars in time for May 4th whereas Billie Eilish is now on the Main Stage in Fortnite Festival.
