Back in March, we broke the news that LinkedIn — the social network for the world of work — was quietly testing the waters for games on its platform, word and logic puzzles similar to Wordle. Citigroup’s VC arm invests in API security startup Traceable

In 2017, Jyoti Bansal co-founded San Francisco-based security company Traceable alongside Sanjay Nagaraj, a former investor. Manor Lords next patch will fix the homelessness issue

Unlike many of the surprise hit games this year such as Palworld and Helldivers, everybody kind of expected Manor Lords to do really and it has obliged. Great sales on Steam, coupled with its appearance on Game Pass has opened up the world of Middle Ages town building to the masses who have lapped it up.
Manor Lords is early access however so those bugs need squashing and content needs adding. The devs at Slavic Magic have promised regular patches to fix up the worst of the early issues and it looks as though the first of these will be with us in the very near future.
Taking to the Manor Lords account on X they said:
“Main points for the planned next patch:
-Fix all the weird homeless bugs
-Tune the archer damage
-Tune the trade oversupply mechanics (it’s too harsh and punishes regional specialization)
-Slow down the rate of the AI claiming territories
Oh and…
-Improve the sawpit efficiency/storage.”

The same thread asked them if they would be fixing the issue of games not loading after a save game to which they replied, “If that’s Gamepass/MS Store, it’s sadly on Microsoft’s side. We notified them and they are working on it. Supposedly reinstalling Gaming Services and relogging in Game Bar (windows+G) can fix it. Annoying but that’s what we got for now.”
It’s not the first time Xbox Game Pass users have had a poor experience around game saves – even Baldur’s Gate 3 players faced months of disruption and corrupted save files and it appears more games are beginning to suffer.
Hopefully, the team at Manor Lords can get this sorted out with Microsoft as well as fixing up the homelessness problem in the next few days.
No date yet for the patch but we will let you know as soon as it pushes. In the meantime, if you are struggling to survive winter in Manor Lords, here is some vital help just for you.

Twitch rolls out TikTok-like discovery feed full of short-form clips

Twitch is taking a leaf out of TikTok’s book as they officially roll out a new discovery feed to all users this week.
The streaming company announced on Tuesday (April 30) that the feature is ‘finally here.’ The launch highlights another platform that has adopted short-form content which has seen TikTok rise to huge heights and popularity.
The likes of Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, LinkedIn, and even UberEats have involved some sort of short-form video feed to their platforms, with Twitch now being the latest to be added to the list.
In a blog post on the company website, they describe the feature as being a “scrollable feed in the Twitch mobile app that shows users a personalized mix of clips and live streams to help viewers find content to enjoy quickly and help streamers get discovered, even when they’re not live.”

The discovery feed is finally here: the quickest way to find content you love on Twitch. Preview dozens of live streams & clips without pre-roll ads to find something to watch in minutes.

The discovery feed is available within the Feed tab of the Twitch mobile app, but developers say the location may move as they continue to experiment with changes.
For streamers looking to utilize the new feature, note that you cannot directly upload any content as all live streams and clips will be automatically eligible to appear if they adhere to content guidelines.
How does Twitch’s feed work?
The content on the discovery feed will be personalized to what users already love watching and new communities the algorithm thinks people will enjoy.
The feed will include two tabs – a live feed, and a clips feed. Just like with TikTok, people can scroll vertically through preroll-free previews of live streams in the feed. When a stream catches the eye, simply click the person’s avatar to enter theater mode and join the live stream.
Viewers can vote with a thumbs up and thumbs down button to let Twitch know what content they’re enjoying and what they want to see more or less of in their personal feed.
The company says “this data will not be shared with the streamer or other viewers and only impacts the viewer’s individual feed experience. We may continue to experiment with these feedback signals over time.”

Amazon profit soars due to AI and advertising

Revenue at Amazon Web Services has soared by more than 200% and the company says artificial intelligence (AI) and advertising sales have driven its better-than-expected earnings.
The retail giant published an earnings report for the first quarter of 2024 on Tuesday (April 30) and the figures exceeded what was expected by Wall Street.
An overall revenue of $143.3bn has been reported for the first three months of the year which is a 13% increase from last year. Amazon was expected to reach $142.65bn.
Operating income saw a huge boost of more than 200%, bringing this to $15.3 billion. This comes after the company has heavily focused on cost-cutting measures and being as efficient as possible to improve its bottom line.
Operating cash flow increased by 82% to $99.1 billion for the trailing twelve months, compared with $54.3 billion for the trailing twelve months that ended March 31, 2023.
In a statement within the report, the president and CEO Andy Jassy says how the “combination of companies renewing their infrastructure modernization efforts and the appeal of AWS’s AI capabilities” has accelerated Amazon Web Services.
He goes on to say how “advertising efforts continue to benefit from the growth of our Stores and Prime Video businesses. It’s very early days in all of our businesses and we remain excited by how much more we can make customers’ lives better and easier moving forward.”
Amazon hones in on AI
One of the focuses for the giant has been in generative AI and they’ve delivered a number of innovations in Amazon Bedrock which is the AI service that allows customers to use an existing large language model and customize it with their own data.
AWS and NVIDIA have also announced an extension of the strategic collaboration during this financial reporting period, with the aim being to “help customers unlock new generative AI capabilities.”
The AI-powered shopping assistant Rufus has continued to be rolled out in the last few months too. Rufus is in beta and will help people make more informed purchase decisions by answering a number of shopping-related questions, providing product comparisons, and making recommendations.
Independent sellers based in the U.S. have seen the introduction of AI features too as tools have been included to speed up the product listing process and make them as engaging as possible.

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao receives a four-month jail term

The founder of the crypto exchange giant Binance, Changpeng Zhao, has been handed a four-month prison sentence.
A Seattle federal judge has held the Chinese-Canadian entrepreneur personally responsible for his actions, handing down the term in light of his guilty plea to money laundering charges.
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao sentenced
As we reported in November last year, Zhao was part of an elaborate plea agreement with U.S. authorities. The company shifted billions of Tether (USDT) stablecoins to cover the cost of the settlement, which caught the company red-handed for money laundering.
Zhao would personally pay $50 million for his part in the scheme involving Binance’s failure to report more than 100,000 suspicious transactions to government watchdogs.
This consistent rule-breaking and failure to report illicit transactions would reach an estimated $898 million before the U.S. government cracked down on the crypto company.
The founder is still the largest controlling stakeowner in the company despite stepping down when the settlement was agreed. The initial settlement was negotiated between the Justice Department, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and the Treasury Department.
The government entities had been pursuing an 18-month sentence, which was then escalated last week to 36 months, according to court filings. However, the term handed down by Judge Richard Jones in Seattle was considerably lighter than expected.
This has been a surprise for spectators as the company was linked to illicit transactions involving terrorist groups such as Hamas, al Qaeda, and ISIS. So, it was presumed that the push for a longer term would stick to Zhao, but Judge Jones didn’t hit Zhao with a landmark stay behind bars.
Zhao’s legal representation had pleaded for a sentence that was comparable to those of other rule breakers in the same crypto arena, saying “No defendant in a remotely similar BSA case has ever been sentenced to incarceration. Mr. Zhao should not be the first.”
Onlookers and commentators had projected that Zhao would face the same fate as FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried. Convictions for fraud and conspiracy were pinned on the crypto entrepreneur and his now-shattered company to a landmark 25 years in prison.
In conclusion to the sentencing, Zhao agreed not to file any appeal to the decision for 18 months.
