Now you can play nearly all N64 games on your PC with raytracing, speedy FPS, and much more – we can sense Nintendo’s lawyers stirring

Picture the scene, somewhere deep off the coast of Japan. The year 2024, something is rising from the depths. Something no humans have the power to stop, no matter how strong their military is. It can’t be, it can’t be Godzilla, can it? Nope, it’s just Nintendo’s legal department frantically photocopying cease and desist letters in preparation for a new onslaught of homebrew PC ports of its Nintendo 64 games from the 90s.
How come you ask? A new tool has been released that has been worked on in secret for over a year that can basically takes the vast majority of classic N64 games and spits them back out in a playable PC format, complete with high frame rates, ultrawide support, and even raytracing.
Oh Goldeneye come to daddy. N64: Recompiled is a tool that recompiles N64 binaries into C code that can then be compiled into any platform and used for ports.
Now the process of doing this may not be for everything because there is a little bit of tech know-how needed. However, that won’t be a problem because guess what plenty of Nintendo fans have – just that know-how so we can export amazing ports just like the one we got of Super Mario 64 last year for a lot of our favorite Nintendo 64 titles courtesy of other people without me even having to get my hands dirty.

My friend Wiseguy’s been working in secret for a year on a tool to make PC ports of N64 games without complete decompilations. The result doesn’t include assets and only requires a ROM to play.
He’s managed to run games like Banjo-Kazooie, Rocket Robot and even Superman 64. pic.twitter.com/sKGuViEsJZ

Now, guessing what is going to happen here is easy as Nintendo still likes to push the occasional N64 game on Nintendo Online, but now the cat is out of the bag, the rolling stobe us gathering no moss, and nerds everywhere are recompiling Perfect Dar, and somewhere, probably Gex into a glorious raytraced PC version.
Everything is on GitHub at the moment so if you want to check out the project you can do so. It will be interesting to see what happens with this one and Nintendo who is not exactly known for letting things go..

France to see €4 billion investment from Microsoft

France is set to see a €4 billion investment from technology giant Microsoft, as they focus on developing data centers and boosting the country’s infrastructure.
The announcement was told on Sunday (May 12) when the company’s president Brad Smith spoke with the French newspaper Le Figaro. The news came just a day before the seventh Choose France Summit event which aims to encourage foreign investors to the area.
The investment will create a new data center in eastern France in Mulhouse and expand the current sites in the Paris region and in the southern city of Marseille.
Microsoft is also aiming to help train a million people and support 2,500 startups by 2027.
Amazon to join Microsoft in investing in France
On Monday (May 13) Amazon joined Microsoft in its commitment to the country with $1.2 billion to be invested.
Amazon says this will create more than 3,000 jobs and increase its footprint in France. These jobs are in addition to the 2,000 jobs the company announced for 2024.
The €1.2 billion investment will drive the expansion of Amazon’s logistics network, allowing them to reduce the time and distance to serve customers better. It should lead to increased delivery speeds and a reduction in carbon emissions.
The investment will span the Amazon Web Services cloud infrastructure too which will help organizations to build and modernize their business with the technology.
The VP of AWS in France and Southern Europe Julien Groues says: “France stands at the dawn of an unprecedented economic opportunity driven by AI.
“Companies across industries recognize AI’s immense benefits for unlocking growth and boosting productivity. With this commitment to expand our cloud capacity, we are empowering organizations in France to fully harness the potential of transformative AI technologies to spur innovation, enhance competitiveness, and create new business value.
“This commitment aligns with AWS’ comprehensive AI strategy—to provide our customers the broadest selection of AI services with the highest performance, security, and compliance with data residency regulations, all at the lowest possible cost for our customers.”

Huge new Skyrim mod brings a large D&D campaign into Bethesda’s classic RPG

Recently, when we talk about Bethesda it’s all been about the likes of Starfield and the recent resurgence of Fallout 4, but Skyrim fans are determined that their favorite game is not forgotten and continue to mod the living daylights out of it to bring new experiences into Tamriel.
A new mod has just been released on NexusMods that has been a real labor of love for its creator and collaborators and even the quickest of looks shows you that this is a monumental piece of work.
The mod is called Shumer and the Priest-King and is a Skyrim rendition of a D&D campaign from the author agerweb. It has voice acting and even its own soundtrack developed and written especially for it and revolves around its own lore that takes it away from t the rest of Tamriel.
In the words of the author, “This is a mod translating a large D&D campaign of mine into Skyrim. The story is set on the continent of Shumer which has its own history, religion, and myths, stretching back 4000 years. This is a narrative mod telling the story of Shumer, a story the player will learn by completing quests, reading books, journals, and letters, and talking to people. The mysteries of the past still have relevance to present-day Shumer,
The Shumer mod is huge and covers an area the size of about three Skyrim holds and has over 150 marked map locations and 40 unmarked ones. There are also more than 80 underground locations to visit, alongside two small islands.
If you were worried it might be a bit empty, there are over 1,000 NPCs and 8,500 lines of mod-specific dialogue.
Quests are in abundance too with Main Questline (21), Side Quests (34), Guild Quests (21), and Miscellaneous Quests (70) to work your way through.
The mod will take a little bit of setting up but full instructions are on its mod page if you fancy heading back into Skyrim one more time and giving it a go.
