With Brain.ai, generative AI is the OS

The Humane Ai Pin and Rabbit handheld have captured a good bit of press interest for their individual approaches to integrating generative AI with hardware. Humane, in particular, is presenting its wearable as a look at life beyond the smartphone. That naturally prompts the question: What, precisely, is wrong with the smartphone? While it’s true […]

How to get The Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything in Infinite Craft

If you thought we were going into a deep philosophical debate when we showed you how to craft Rambo and Britney you haven’t seen anything yet. This lesson in Infinite Crafting is about getting the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything. By the time we get to the end of this one, you will be able to debate just about everything in a bar with strangers. Strap in, it’s a long one.
How to get The Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything
To get there we are going to need to get Riddle, Riddle of the Sphinx, and Coconut Tsunami (yes we know, it is Infinite Craft though and some of it is a bit mad). Let’s get going because this has been puzzling humanity for centuries.

Ideogram: Free AI image generator rolls out text-in-image upgrade

Images created by artificial intelligence (AI) are notoriously bad at creating text – but that could be about to change with the release of Ideogram 1.0.
Dubbing itself ‘the most advanced text-to-image model’, Ideogram has raised $80 million in Series A funding, announced as the startup releases it’s first version of its text-to-image generation platform and new subscription model to the public.
With new generative AI tools launching all the time, having something to stand out in the crowded world of AI images is vital. Indeed, DALL-E recently took steps to protect its own work in an ever-bigger market.
One of the main selling points of Ideogram is its ability to generate text within AI-generated images, something other models often struggle with. AI-generated text on images will often appear as incomprehensible symbols or at best nonsense words in random orders.
However, Ideogram appears to be able to generate legible, relevant text within images, something that helps it stand out against its competitors. Ideogram suggests that its text-rendering capabilities could be used to create personalized memes, posters, and designs for any number of slogan products, such as T-shirt designs, birthday cards, logos and more.

Introducing Ideogram 1.0: the most advanced text-to-image model, now available on https://t.co/Xtv2rRbQXI!
This offers state-of-the-art text rendering, unprecedented photorealism, exceptional prompt adherence, and a new feature called Magic Prompt to help with prompting. pic.twitter.com/VOjjulOAJU
— Ideogram (@ideogram_ai) February 28, 2024

Another feature Ideogram is promoting is its Magic Prompt option, which helps users write detailed prompts for their images. It appears to work much like a chat assistant, offering advice on how to fine-tune your prompts.
How does Ideogram work?
Just like DALL-E, Midjourney, and other AI text-to-image generators, users type in prompts to Ideogram and then click ‘generate’. The tool then delivers four images within 30 seconds, each offering a different interpretation of the given prompt. Subscribers can then download and freely use the images, or tweak and generate new image batches until satisfied.
You need an account to use Ideogram, with the free account offering 100 images (the equivalent of 25 prompts) per day. The basic account costs $7 a month, increasing your number of daily images to 400, PNG-quality images and 1600 priority-generation images per month. For $16 a month, you get unlimited daily images and 4000 priority-generation images a month. All three plans have no restrictions on what you can use the images for.

Tokyo Game Show 2024 announced

Tokyo Game Show has announced its dates and theme for 2024. The trade show and exhibition, which has been running for 27 years, will be themed around a central idea: “Trailblaze the World with Gaming”.
It will retain its four-day length with two days dedicated to business and two open to public attendance.
The 2024 Tokyo Game Show will follow in the footsteps of the 2023 show and take up the whole event space at Makuhari Messe. 2023 saw the largest number of booths and the highest level of ‘business day’ visitors in the show’s history and they are aiming to build on this success.
What will be at the Tokyo Game Show?
The Tokyo Game Show primarily focuses on Japanese companies and games, but there have been large exhibits from international studios before too. Last year, Xbox made a range of announcements during its Digital Broadcast, including game launches and updates.
Crucially, both Sony and Nintendo are Japanese companies and are expected to have a large presence. Rumors about the Switch 2 have been running rampant, including new information suggesting that the hardware could house a custom Nvidia chip for improved performance. With speculation that the new console will be delayed into 2025, a September announcement would fit that timeline. There are also predictions, made by a Tokyo-based games consultancy, that Sony will launch a PlayStation 5 ‘pro’ model this year, with boosted hardware and performance. The Tokyo Games Show seems a perfect venue for either an announcement or a launch.
Key Dates
The call for exhibitors is currently open for both the in-person event and an accompanying digital show running alongside.

Closing date for exhibitor application – Friday, May 24
Exhibitor briefing – Thursday, July 4
Digital Show opens – Friday, September 20
Tokyo Game Show Business Days – Thursday 26 and Friday 27 September
Tokyo Game Show Public Days – Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September
Digital Show closes – Sunday, October 6

Pornhub AI chatbot intercepts millions hunting for child abuse videos

A simple chatbot on Pornhub has intercepted millions of people searching for child abuse videos.
Over the past two years, Pornhub’s UK website has presented a pop-up chatbot to those searching for child abuse videos on the adult content site. The warning message has been triggered 4.4 million times by words or phrases linked to abuse. The pop-up blocks the content and warns that it is illegal and, in half of the cases, directs people to where they can find help.
The two-year trial was conducted by Pornhub in partnership with two UK-based child protection organizations. A new report from the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) states that the pop-ups resulted in a decrease in the number of searches for material about child sexual abuse, as well as seeing more people seek help for such behavior.
“The actual raw numbers of searches, it’s quite scary high,” Joel Scanlan, a senior lecturer at the University of Tasmania who led the evaluation of the reThink Chatbot, told WIRED. “There’s a significant reduction over the length of the intervention in number of searches. The deterrence messages do work.”
Throughout the trial, there were 4,400,960 warnings triggered by searches on Pornhub’s UK website. In total, 99% of searches during the trial did not trigger a warning.
The chatbot itself asked those who triggered the pop-up a series of questions, allowing them to click buttons to answer or type out a response. It went on to explain that the content the user just searched for may be illegal and directed them toward charitable help services.
Searches for child sexual abuse material on Pornhub
Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is illegal and Pornhub takes steps to remove millions of images and videos every year. The adult content site uses a list of 34,000 banned terms to track and block CSAM, according to a spokesperson for the company speaking to WIRED.
This came after a report from the New York Times back in 2020, exposing a damning number of child exploitation and nonconsensual videos hosted on the site. Since then, Pornhub has publicly made more efforts to combat illegal material as part of its user safety efforts – including the chatbot, designed and created by the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), a nonprofit which removes CSAM from the web, and the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, a charity which works to prevent child sexual abuse.
2023 also saw the EU slapping stricter regulations, while in the States, North Carolina and Montana have both blocked the use of the site following age verification laws coming into play earlier this year.
The report states that there were 1,656 requests for more information made through the chatbot and 490 people clicking through to the charity’s Stop It Now website. Around 68 people called or chatted with Lucy Faithfull’s confidential helpline, the report says.

Rockstar Games: Grand Theft Auto 6 developers ordered back to office

Rockstar Games, the developers behind the incredibly popular Grand Theft Auto franchise, have told staff that they are expected to be in the office five days per week starting in April, reports Bloomberg.
A subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar announced in November 2023 that Grand Theft Auto 6 was on its way, though leaks as far back as September 2022 had all but confirmed that the game was in development.
It’s the threat of leaks along with the need for productivity and focus that have resulted in this decision by Rockstar. In an email to staff Jenn Kolbe, Rockstar’s Head of Publishing, cited security and productivity as the key factors. “Making these changes now puts us in the best position to deliver the next Grand Theft Auto at the level of quality and polish we know it requires, along with a publishing roadmap that matches the scale and ambition of the game,” said Kolbe in the email.
In addition to these earlier leaks, the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer was leaked just days before the official trailer launch date. This resulted in some disappointment from Rockstar but didn’t harm the launch – people loved the trailer. It was found that a British teenager performed the trailer leak from a hotel room.

Rockstar Games’s Culture of Crunch
While a desire to prevent further leaks in the last phase of development is an understandable one, some eyebrows will be raised at the second part of the reasoning – “productivity”. The topic of working from home versus in-office is a contentious one, and often split on managerial lines, with workers saying they get more done at home and managers saying they see higher productivity when people are in offices. It is undeniably much harder to enforce crunch (compulsory overtime) when people are working from home.
Rockstar is notorious for crunch, and staff were regularly working over 100 hours per week in the run-up to Red Dead Redemption 2’s launch. With the games industry in an incredibly volatile state (studio after studio announcing mass layoffs and game cancellations), it becomes much easier to manipulate those who have stayed employed into tolerating harsh working conditions.
A pervasive fear that it could be your studio and your job next in line will lead to developers doing more for less, and with their stated focus on “productivity,” it’s hard not to see this as a euphemism that Rockstar is hiding behind to ensure Grand Theft Auto 6 meets its planned release window.
Rockstar Games has offices in the USA, UK and India. It is unclear if the work-from-office mandate applies to all staff.
A UK-based Rockstar Games employee, who did not want to be named, told Readwrite.com: “People are speculating that it’s a soft mass layoff” and “by making conditions worse” people will quit “so there wouldn’t be any severance.”
Rockstar Games have been approached for comment.
